Since 1954 when it was created, the Musée du Léman has built up a unique collection of objects and documents concerning water and Lake Geneva, and embracing both nature and culture.
It boasts a particularly outstanding sailing boat collection: more than 50 craft have been preserved along with over 150 scale models. The Musée du Léman is also the depositary of collections of considerable importance, including the Aldo Balmas (models),
Henri Copponex (sailing) Louis-Ernest Favre (sailing), François-Alphonse Forel (limnology), Abraham Hermanjat (painting) and Jacques and Auguste Piccard (submarines), André Fatzer (steamers) collections. A depot for the collections built in 2000-2001 by the town (Nyon) has been extended in 2012 and house a number of objects before entrusted to private individuals.
