The Musée du Léman’s live collections

Five natural habitats in five tanks – an original and accurate reconstitution of the lives of fish in their natural environment.

The Museum’s aquariums are permanently stocked with between 200 and 300 fish and crustaceans, representing the 31 species living in Lake Geneva and its waterways.

They inhabit five tanks totalling over 40 000 litres of water that faithfully reproduce their habitats, from the shores to the deepest parts of the Lake.
The display, which has been made as realistic as possible, showcases areas where several species, large and small, prey and predators, live side by side.
In the dark and the silence the visitor becomes a veritable observer of Lake Geneva’s fish population and can learn to recognise them and become familiar with their behaviour and interactions in conditions that closely resemble their natural environment.
